1. About ChitPact

ChitPact ("we", "us", "our") is an expense tracking and splitting tool available at chitpact.com. ChitPact helps groups of people record, split, and keep track of shared expenses. ChitPact is not a bank, payment processor, or financial institution. We do not hold, transfer, or process money on your behalf.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using ChitPact, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use ChitPact.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use ChitPact. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you may not create an account.

4. Your Account

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.
• You may not create accounts for others without their consent.

5. Use of the Service

You agree to use ChitPact only for lawful purposes. You must not:

• Use ChitPact to harass, defraud, or harm other users.
• Enter false or misleading expense data with intent to deceive other group members.
• Attempt to access, tamper with, or disrupt ChitPact's systems or other users' accounts.
• Use ChitPact for any illegal financial activity, including money laundering.
• Reverse engineer, copy, or create derivative works of ChitPact.

6. Expense Data and Accuracy

You are solely responsible for the accuracy of expense data you enter into ChitPact. ChitPact:

• Records and displays the data you and your group members enter.
• Does not verify, validate, or audit any expense data.
• Is not liable for any errors, disputes, or financial loss arising from incorrect data.

7. No Debt Enforcement

ChitPact shows balances and amounts owed between users as a convenience. ChitPact does not enforce, guarantee, or facilitate the repayment of any debt. Any arrangement to settle balances is entirely between the users involved. ChitPact bears no responsibility if a user fails to pay a balance shown in the app.

8. Group Data and Member Access

When you join or create a group, all members of that group can see all expenses added to that group. By adding an expense to a group, you consent to all current and future members of that group viewing it. You should not add sensitive information beyond what is necessary to describe a shared expense.

9. Receipt Vault

ChitPact allows you to upload and store receipt images ("Receipt Vault"). You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and store any image you submit. ChitPact stores receipts as uploaded and makes no representations about their accuracy, legibility, or legal validity.

10. Premium Features

ChitPact offers optional paid subscription features ("ChitPact Plus"). Subscription fees are billed in advance. Refunds are not provided for partial billing periods except where required by applicable law. We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice.

11. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if we detect fraudulent or abusive behaviour, or if we choose to discontinue the service. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Intellectual Property

ChitPact and all associated software, design, and content are owned by ChitPact and protected by intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of any data you submit (expense descriptions, amounts, receipt images). You grant ChitPact a limited licence to store and display your data solely to provide the service.

13. No Financial Advice

ChitPact is an expense-splitting and tracking tool. Nothing in the service constitutes financial, legal, or tax advice.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

ChitPact is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We make no warranties regarding the accuracy of balance calculations beyond what is mathematically derived from the data you enter.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ChitPact and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including any financial loss resulting from reliance on balances shown in the app, disputes between group members, or inability to access your account.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of ChitPact after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of the jurisdiction in which ChitPact operates.
